Do I have to attend closing when I sell my house for cash in NC?

Closing & Getting Paid Β· Updated

You can, but you do not have to

Every Address2Cash sale closes through a North Carolina-licensed closing attorney. That does not mean you have to sit in their office. Plenty of our sellers never do.

You have three ways to sign, and you pick the one that fits your day.

Option one: the attorney's office

If you are local and would rather sign in person, you can. The attorney walks you through each document, answers questions, and takes your ID. It usually takes less than an hour.

Option two: a mobile notary comes to you

If getting to an office is hard, because you work, you are caring for someone, you do not drive, or you just do not want to, we arrange a mobile notary. They bring the closing documents to your home, your workplace, a hospital room or a coffee shop, watch you sign, notarize, and return the papers to the attorney. You do not pay for this.

Option three: sign from wherever you already are

If you have already moved, or you live in another state, the attorney sends the documents to you to sign in front of a local notary, or sets up a remote online notarization over video. We cover the details on the page about closing remotely from out of state.

What closing day actually is

Closing is not one big meeting where everyone sits at a table. In North Carolina it is a sequence: you sign your documents, we sign ours, the attorney confirms the money is in their trust account, they record the deed at the county Register of Deeds, and then they disburse. You do not need to be present for any of it after your signature is done.

Getting paid does not depend on showing up

Your proceeds come by wire from the attorney's trust account after the deed is recorded, whether you signed at their desk or in your kitchen. There is no check to pick up. We explain the timing on the page about how and when you get your money.

Bring, or have ready

A government photo ID, and any documents the attorney has asked you for ahead of time, such as estate paperwork or a divorce order if those apply. That is all. We cover the rest in what documents you need.
